Communities all over the country are taking to social media to celebrate the class of 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to keep students out of the classroom and make social distancing a priority. Reyna Mazari, Personal Lines Service Manager of Desert Insurance Solutions, spearheaded the launch of the Facebook group “Coachella Valley Adopt a Graduating 2020 High School Senior” project.

The pandemic has seen a cancellation of proms, graduations, sporting events, and more – making it a stressful time for students. In the Facebook group, Adopt A Senior, locals can adopt a graduating high school senior. The group encourages individuals to adopt a senior and send a letter, card, gift, gift card, snack – anything – to let them know we’re all rooting for them. As of May 21, 2020, the group had close to 8,000 members, and more than 1,200 donations have been made.

As a local mom, Reyna can understand how difficult it can be for graduating seniors to miss out on the graduation ceremonies. Reyna, along with her friends, Tanya Moreno and Jacqueline Oppenheimer, co-founded the Facebook group to give recognition – and celebrate the hard work of – all students who have made it to this milestone in their life amid these uncertain times.

In support of the program – and the graduating class of 2020, Desert Insurance Solutions’ President, Carrie Babij, secured a full page Ad in the local publication, The Gem, and the Hunter|Johnsen team created the Ad – honoring and congratulating the Class of 2020.
