Sometimes the most effective communications tools are the ones people can actually use.

For CV Water Counts, Hunter|Johnsen developed a series of four easy-to-understand information sheets designed to help Coachella Valley residents, businesses, HOAs, and other property owners make informed decisions about water use and water-efficient landscaping.

The project started with an idea: create practical, visually engaging resources that could take important water-related topics and make them approachable, useful, and easy to share.

Working closely with the CV Water Counts partner agencies, Hunter|Johnsen helped identify the topics that would be most valuable to the community. From there, our team researched and wrote the content, developed the messaging, and designed each guide as part of a cohesive series.

The result is four distinct resources:

Make Water Conservation a Way of Life: A Simple Guide provides straightforward indoor and outdoor tips, from repairing leaks and taking shorter showers to improving irrigation practices, installing drip systems, and using smart controllers.

Switch to Desert-Friendly Landscaping: A Beginner’s Guide walks readers through the basics of creating a more water-efficient landscape—from choosing climate-friendly plants and improving soil to using efficient irrigation and thoughtful landscape design.

Upgrade to Drip Irrigation: Efficient Watering Made Easy explains why drip irrigation can be an effective alternative to traditional sprinklers, outlines its benefits, and shows the variety of residential and commercial landscape applications where it can be used.

Cut Costs. Save Water. Boost Curb Appeal: It’s Time to Rethink Your Landscape addresses non-functional turf, explains the difference between functional and decorative turf, and helps commercial, institutional, and HOA audiences understand changes associated with California’s AB 1572. It also points readers toward local rebates, tools, and assistance available through the Valley’s water agencies.

Once developed, Hunter|Johnsen established an integrated approach to make sure these resources reach the audiences they were created to serve. The information sheets are available through CVWaterCounts.com, featured in CV Water Counts newsletters and social media, and promoted at community events throughout the Coachella Valley.

The four CV Water Counts guides are more than informational handouts. Together, they create a practical resource library that helps translate sometimes complicated water topics into clear actions people can take at their homes, businesses, and communities.

And because each guide directs readers back to the website for additional information, rebates, and resources, they also help strengthen the website as a central destination for water-saving information throughout the Coachella Valley. Explore the complete series at CVWaterCounts.com.
